RED is the market-leading driver education provider in the UK, positioned strategically to leverage tech-enabled e-learning applications to expand market share and deliver a student centric journey from start to finish.
The Group is made up of business units focused on student driver training, driving instructor training, corporate driver training and utilises a range of Apps including ‘Learn To Drive With RED’, ‘RED Complete Driving Theory’ and ‘My Theory Test by James May”.
The group includes FBTC Accountancy Services – a specialist business providing accountancy services to small businesses and the self-employed, many of whom are driving instructors.
From business-to-consumer student learners through to business-to-business organisations providing driver training and driver risk management to their driving employees, RED has significant touch-points across much of the driver’s life cycle and is a specialist training provider, growing and diversifying successfully.
RED Driver Training
RED’s core service offering is delivering car licence acquisition training to students across the UK via its national network of over 1,700 RED franchised driving instructors.
In addition to delivering over 1.3 million hours of driving lessons per year to successfully pass the Practical driving test, the business has invested in App content to provide a strengthened and enhanced relationship with their students and to also provide comprehensive content to help learn to pass the Theory Test.
This includes ‘My Test Theory by James May’, ‘RED Complete Driving Theory’ and ‘Learn To Drive With RED’ – the latter being an integral part of the overall lesson purchase experience with RED. The organisation is investing in further developments in digital Apps and greater digitisation.
RED has an industry leading programme of driving instructor training and has trained one in four of all driving instructors across the UK.
Winning the ‘2024 National Training Provider of the Year’ as part of the Intelligent Instructor Awards exemplifies the high standards and quality of RED instructor training. It helps individuals to become qualified DVSA Approved Driving Instructors with many going on to become RED franchisees.
RED delivers both practical and theory training support to aspiring instructors in a flexible learning environment, providing all the necessary training to successfully pass all three driving instructor tests to become a fully qualified driving instructor; Theory Test, Practical Driving Test and Instructional Ability Test. We even offer a fast track option with many courses delivered at our RED Donington training centre. This business has won the Feefo 2024 Platinum Trusted Service Award.
RED doesn’t stop at helping individuals pass their initial driving test in a car.
RED Corporate driver training offers a whole range of compliance and risk management services to UK organisations that recognise they have a duty of care and a Health & Safety mandate to protect their drivers and other road users.
With a dedicated and comprehensive programme of training courses, a core of qualified ADI fleet driver trainers, and a new digital management and driver platform, SafetyFirst, this business unit offers fleet managers and other business decision-makers the reassurance of ongoing support services to reduce costs, damage and injuries, as well as protect reputations on the road.
The services include licence checking, online risk assessments, quality e-learning modules, and a range of on road and workshop/webinar training – and these appeal to both SME and larger businesses where compliance and safety are paramount.

Seb Goldin
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Seb joined the business as CEO in 2022. Prior to RED, he founded Business Driver and was previously the MD of the Institute of Advanced Motorists. He holds an MBA from Cranfield School of Management and a BSc in Management & Geography.
Jon Sutcliffe
CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Jon joined the business in 2011 as Head of Operations and is now our Chief Operating Officer. He holds a BA Hons in Graphic Design and Communication along with a Higher National Diploma in Photography and Design.
Simon Clarke
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Simon joined the business in 2004 as Financial Controller. In addition to his finance role, Simon has responsibility for the group’s fleet activities, customer services and FBTC. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant, having trained at KPMG.
Adam Watson
CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER
Adam joined the business in 2023 as CTO, joining RED to use his EdTech expertise to lead the digital product roadmap as the business continues to diversify and scale operations. Adam holds a MSc in Creative Technology from LBU university.
Colin Paterson
HEAD OF MARKETING
Colin joined RED in 2023 and is responsible for marketing and communications. He has worked in
driver training & safety and telematics prior to joining RED. Colin has a BA Hons in Business Studies and a Diploma in Digital Marketing.
